PD: Security guard shoots, kills man outside Phoenix nightclub
PHOENIX — A Valley security guard is facing murder charges after he shot and killed a man outside a Phoenix nightclub early Sunday morning, police said. A spokesperson for the Phoenix Police Department said officers were called to investigate a reported shooting call at Club Silverado, near 27th Avenue and Bethany Home Road, around 1:20 in the morning. There, they found a man, later identified as 29-year-old Ruben Sekiseka, dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
On Monday, police said they arrested, Serafin Chavez, 34, who was working as an armed security guard at the nightclub on Sunday and had escorted Sekiseka out of the club after a fight. Police said Chavez initially told investigators that Sekiska shot himself as he was leaving the club. However, police said that was not true.
During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Chavez shot Sekiska and allegedly hid the shell casing from his gun on the lid of a trash can in front of a nearby convenience store before officers arrived at the scene.
Chavez was booked into jail on one count of second-degree murder and one count of tampering with evidence.
