Streatham Homebase employee 'scarred for life after bottle attack by shoplifter'
A man has been taken to hospital after reportedly being hit ‘by a bottle’ outside a Homebase in Streatham. Eyewitnesses at the shop have reported that the man was a security guard who was injured while preventing a thief from stealing from the store. MyLondon has approached Homebase who said they are ‘working closely with the police and doing everything (they) can to support (their) team in store.”

Police units descended on the Homebase on Woodgate Drive, Streatham this morning at around 9:23am following the incident. A man claiming to be in the store has given MyLondon a dramatic account of what happened in the store. They said: “The man who was assaulted at Homebase was a security guard.
” He tried to stop a man from stealing a garden hedge trimmer worth no more than GBP50. I tried to look for the man when I realised what he had done to the poor security guard. “Although the guard will be greatly compensated he is definitely scarred for life as he has a very deep slice from the top right of his forehead to the left side of his cheek.
“The shoplifter hit him with a glass bottle!”
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that the reason for their presence in the store was due to the incident. A spokesman said: “At approximately 09:23hrs on Friday, 26 March police were called by London Ambulance Service to Woodgate Drive, SW16, to a report of an assault. “Officers attended.
They found an injured man who is believed to have sustained injuries after being hit with a bottle by another man. “The victim was taken to hospital. We await an update on his condition but, at this time, it is not believed to be life-threatening.
