Police called to reports of a car meet at a busy marina

Police were called to reports of sporty cars descending on a busy marina near Burton. The cars were spotted descending on Barton Marina yesterday afternoon, Sunday, May 17, as the warm weather hit the area. A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said officers were called to the area at 2pm to a report of a car meet.

However, officers attended a short time later to find the vehicles had left, a spokesman said. It comes as the lockdown restrictions were eased slightly by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, meaning that people can take as much exercise outside as they wish, including driving to other areas. However, social distancing practices still need to be in place at all times, meaning that people who are not from the same household need to be two metres apart.

Pictures taken at Barton Marina, show a large number of vehicles parked on the grass.

One person, who did not want to be named, told Burton Live that the vehicles had been seen driving through the village before heading to the marina.
